Well, Mom and I showed up at the harbor at 6:30 AM for our shark adventure. There were 3 couples and a single woman that went also. The single woman wasn't sure if she would get in the cage or not...I told her she would just have to do it! She did and LOVED it. Well, Mom and I were in the first group to go in the cage. It wasn't scary at all. The seemed really docile. I can't remember what type of sharks they were, I need to figure that out. Hmmmm
Alright I did some research...
The sharks that we possible saw were the Galapagos and Grey Reef sharks, ranging from 5-15 ft in length. Both of these sharks hunt the reef floor. It was also possible that we saw a dogfish shark but those are smaller than the other two. According to the website I guess it's possible to see a hammerhead too, no such luck for us :( The boat took us about 3-4 miles off of Haliewa harbor. It started to get a little choppy out there and a few people got somewhat sea sick to the point of hurling their breakfast over the side of the boat. Mom and I were cool though :) I felt bad for them, even though it was funny. heehee
Now for some Hawaiian FYI:
The king mano (shark) god of Oahu (each island has their own) is Kamohoali'i. He lives over by Pearl Harbor.
Anyhoo...here is the website of the tour that we went on. They have a lot of information about sharks along with videos and pictures.
